I left adding anything yesterday for 2 reasons 1 it was kind of uneventful, though I did enjoy my one grade 8 class working hard on their design a shop model work, I said no restraints on the type of shop and yes 4 of the boys want to make a sex shop, I agreed on 2 conditions, 1 it is tastefully designed and 2 all their names go on it so it is on display for their parents to see next parents evening. Wonder if it might become a sports shop before the end of the design phase. But speaking of parents evenings they are actually Parent Days starting at 1.30 and finishing at 6.00 - today was end of term 1 and a selection of parents came and went, over all I spoke to maybe 5 so about 1 an hour... but Hernando my colleague was talking non stop, think the fact I dont speak spanish made a wee difference to who wanted to see me and who didnt. Did allow me to do some marking, and some organising so wasn't a loss. One thing I did find encouraging from those parents that spoke to me was that they all said their sons or daughters were enjoying the work and the class (Oh and no one complained about the ranting and raving scotsman.. well not to me anyways.)
As usual with all these things though and sadly I was guilty of it too as a parent, you only see the parents that you don't need to see and the ones I wanted to see didn't turn up.
Other than that the night was uneventful, apart from the torrential rain on the way home. I got in looking like a drowned rat and I had only walked 2 blocks! (Though thats about 1/2 a mile here)
So there you have the 2 days since I got back in a nutshell.
Tomorrow its back to normal so will need to see what my 4 grade 8 classes do with their shop design projects, they certainly seem motivated and enjoying the work. (One class want to make a transparent shop using acetate, again I have said no restrictions, if they can "think it" we will try to do it, Thats where creativity can flourish and problem solving can be developed far better in my view than a predefined task with set end goal, though some pupils will struggle because of the lack of those defined goals.) One thing I can say though is I enjoy watching the ideas being created without my direction, it makes the teaching fulfilling and interesting. Till tomorrow ..manyana
