The quiz night was good .. though I prefer taking part to actually setting the questions.
Classes today were 2 grade 6 classes which were ok.. not too bad. Tomorrow I have the grade 8 classes usually something I look forward too but not sure what tomorrow will bring as I feel really disappointed in their general lack of effort.
That aside everyone is talking of the current tension between Venezuela and Ecquador and their dislike for Colombia. In truth The Venezuelan President Chavez is a wild card and I have no idea what he will do over the coming months. Recently he tried to get himself voted in as President in perpetuity but the public voted against it.. I think his current stance is to disguise his involvement with the FARC the Colombian Revolutionary Army and to act as some sabre rattling to promote his public face and try to show he is indispensible. since he has absolutely no involvement in the confrontation between Ecquador and Colombia over the recent attack on a FARC base situated in Ecquador that the Colombian Military destroyed without consultation with Ecquador, and in the process entered their air space and crossed their border without permission. He is stamping his foot stating should Colombia try to do the same with Venezuela it will lead to war and he has mobilised his troops along the border. Some of the information obtained in the raid in ecquador seems to suggest that President Chavez had some sort of financial link with the FARC in the past and today .. this would be seen as damning evidence if its not denounced and this current period of tension seems designed purely to distract the public. The general feelign is nothign will come of it. But I am sure their are some factions that would welcome it.. Bearing in mind Venezuela provided the US with a lot of OIL up till recently when Chavez cut it off because he felt they weren't paying enough for it, and that the US is a staunch supporter of Colombia and its President Uribe.
Politically its a tinderbox so the more it rains the better I feel.
CNN, Google News and BBC 24 all are running upto date stories thats where I get my info so if you need to know more check out the News sites.
Till Tomorrow ... chao
