The school day was long even though it was only half the day due to the meetings but on a day 3 I have 3 x 6 grade classes and they were still hyper from the exam week. Tomorrow everything is back to normal and its day 4 and I LOVE day 4 just a shame the 2 classes I teach are first and last period, so i wonder how many covers I will get.
I have marked all but one class and what was a little disappointing is that 4 of my Grade 8 class have failed the exam. I stress to fail this exam took a huge amount of effort especially since I had set it very easy and had spent a complete lesson going through everything they would need to know the week before the exam. There were no surprises and in my view there were no excuses to score less than 80% and thats being generous it should have been possible for everyone to score in the low 90's. So to fail took more skill than to pass. Needless to say if I remind you that there is one class where a group of pupils do nothing then it wont come as a surprise to know they were the ones failing.
I wont be pulling any punches when I hand out the marks but I hope not to have the same effect Diana had, when she gave out grades to one of her grade 5 classes. One little girl got a grade of 2 which is the lowest grade you can get, unless you dont actually turn anything in, she burst into tears. Needless to say the boys who got a Grade of 2 thought they were uber cool... In Grade 5 you can kind of accept it but in my Grade 8 classes it isn't anywhere near acceptable. I hope the parents are as disappointed as I am.
One glimmer of hope amongst the mediocrity of results was one and only one pupil, so far, a girl scored a perfect 100%. If this last class don't equal that then she will have an envious position amongst the 130 odd pupils.
Tomorrow .. interview... tonight ... sleep.... Chao mi amigos.
