A good day A Tuesday.

10 days and counting.....

Today I took time out to take 84 photographs of the school for use by the kids when it comes to the main project they are working on after Christmas.

I created a lot of interest from the primary pupils as I moved around, so much so that the only way to get free was to agree to taking their photo. But then they were cute. And of course their english was exceptional.

The day was a day of highs and lows, one of the girls in my mentoria class had been in a group on the shop project where they had failed to achieve better than grade 4 she asked to see me alone and the poor soul was almost in floods of tears because she hadn't had the support of the group and felt overwhelmed. I really did feel for her and did my best to be verbally reassuring. But it is a problem with group work and I will need to relook at the groups after the christmas break to ensure that the ones who want to work and achieve get the opportunities too.

To counter that I had 2 girls from Grade 8 who needed a hand doing some work for another class - It was relatively easy and as they left I gave them both a chocolate from the box Diana had brought me back from the Amazon trip. I had handed one of the girls the chocolates as she left and I had turned back into my classroom, only to look around as both girls rushed back in with a huge smile on their faces saying "Thank YOU sir" as if I had just given them the most precious gift possible and gave me a hug before they dashed out. Some days you just have to love teaching.

My final thought for tonight is based on the fact that Diana and Nelson have been working their socks off trying to get next years Budget sorted out. I am not really helping them alot as I keep trying to convince them that spending $1500 US on Robotics kit is worthwhile, when I wont be here to teach it. But having said that I am still going to push and push as I really do feel its part of the way forward with links to Maths, Science and Technology and a good outlet for those who are not as "Athletically Biased" as others. However this last picture shows some of the items available for ordering through the educational catalogue, which covers most curricular subjects. Yes the top left image is rubber lifelike feel testicles, the right hand image is a rubber phallis complete with artificial semen. and of course below that is Diana's fingers still stained with the henna type ink used to tattoo her arm BUT you do have to admire her perfectly manicured nails... who said the amazon was a jungle !!!!
