It was a good day at school the 4 x 8 grade classes I had all worked well apart from one, where two of the boys, who are normally best friends, decided to exchange some serious punches. It was just like being in a Boxing ring. Unfortunately I had razor sharp scalpels out and that sort of action is way out side the realms of acceptable behavour - this was not playful hijinks which in a technology room is a good reason for being removed but outright aggression. Needless to say I hit the roof, really surprised they didnt hear me in the main office. Extracting the 2 boys I led them off to the Head of Middle school.. who was out, ok lets try Head of High School, also out, so settled for Head of Year. Both boys were back in my class in 10 minutes and without even a by your way. Wrong life choice, immaterial of the actions the school intend to take I threw both boys back out and applied a strict talking to about acceptable behavour in a technology room. In one ear out the other does come to mind.
Tomorrow I have 3 Grade 6 classes who should be working on their chinese tangram project, but after Fridays classes I found new graffiti written on my benches so I guess tomorrow is going to be taken up with a lesson in sanding wood .. 1 small 4 inch square piece of sandpaper per pupil per bench (There are 4 pupils to a bench)and they can sand down the work surfaces. By the end of the day I should have a nice clean classroom again and the pupils will have an understanding of sanding wood.
Or of course I could just give them 5 pages of writing to do. However I feel the sanding might be a better lesson. (Especially since the benches are as rough as the proverbial badgers bum) Might not make me any friends but I'm not here for friendship and after the last lot of graffiti and the lack of interest from management I feel handling it in house is the way to do it.
Further updates tomorrow.
