Its just not Cricket

With 2 cricket bats repaired to Scottish Craftsmanship Quality (Please stop laughing) we were feeling more comfortable, But the English department wanted another 2 Cricket bats created just in case the newly modified ones failed.. Pah ! No confidence in above mentioned Scottish craftsmanship.
Unfortunately I was teaching so Nelson took on the task to produce 2 more units, he had disappeared for about 40 minutes then returned with an old grotty plank of what looked like Oak very tight grained and about 1 and 1/2 inches thick. Ideal for the task but not for our Bandsaw as another blade bit the dust (or at least the grain.)However not to be put off Nelson worked away by hand producing 2 of the most beautiful works of art that could be called hand crafted... So good were they he even took the time to add the Department Name onto the back so everyone would know who had manufactured them. In bold, deeply engraved lettering the new Cricket Bats proclaim .... DESING & TECHNOLOGY. I could have cried if I wasn't laughing so much... I just didn't have the heart to tell him as the work he must have put into shaping this tight grained wood with the pretty poor quality tools we have and without a bandsaw must have taken an extra ordinary effort.
As it was they tested the repaired bats and found they hit the ball further and handled better so ONE UP to the above mentioned craftsmanship. But at least they have 4 bats now so if one gets damaged it isnt the catastrophy the English department feared.
If we get any of the works of art back I will take photo's, and you just know one of the Bats proclaiming the manufacturers will end up above the door to the technicians room !!!
All work has now finished as the next 2 days are set aside for non academic pursuits, tomorrow for instance I am babysitting grade 8's and on friday a sort of House Sports Day I am overseeing the Tug of War. Then its October week and like UK I get to sit back and put my feet up. Or in my case try to see more of Bogota and pick up a few "wee mindings" for those back home.
More updates and some images tomorrow.
