Culture day

Today was Culture Day which started for me, with spending an hour listening to comedy skits put on by the kids of grade 8 in Spanish , as part of the their Spanish culture. Although I didn't understand much of the commentary, the hour was very enjoyable as the kids showed off their acting skills. Its nice to see the kids out of the normal class environment. This was followed by an hour of indiginious culture, Sadly in both locations the lighting was very dim and I didn't want to use flash so pictures were not that great, this one is local Colombian music and it does get your heart beating and your toes tapping, though a few of the local teachers went a bit further with salsa and solo dance moves being exhibited around the aisles.

From there it was out to see how the cricket was doing and to try to get some pics of those designer Cricket Bats. As you can see the weather was holding up well and the morning activities were a pleasure to see.

Unfortunately after this wonderful start to the day things got a little worse...

The final event of the day was a "Rock Concert" playing typical British Music, which revolved around DEAFENING sound in a location that had the accoustics of steel box with renditions by a group of pupils of such classic British hits as Pink Floyd, Queen and the Sex Pistols at ear drum destroying sound levels.

I was monitoring one of the doors I had been told not to allow any pupils out for any reason and I have never felt so bad at telling kids who were desperate to escape to the outer area away from the cacophony of sound,, Sorry you can't go. It was so bad that if someone from the Council of Human Rights had been there they would have charged the school with endangering Human Hearing!!! Even the RAIN was going to win this choice if it had been given a chance.

That said the kids behaved perfectly mind you maybe because after 5 minutes they were deaf as posts!.
