Good Evening from a Wet and Thundery Bogota

I think I may be the cause of the change in weather .. If I hadn't bought the waterproof jacket maybe it wouldn't STILL be raining.. thats not really all true we did have about a 3 hour window this morning when it was dry where I went for my walk after marking, bought a couple more items and then came back to mark some more, and I am still marking and it seems never ending - if this is what exam marking is right I never want to volunteer for that (Unless of course the money makes it worthwhile.)
Looking through all the work that the pupils have put together in their folio is interesting once I have analysed the responses I'll post some more but the general feeling is they are really enjoying it.
I have also had a selection of classes in the workshop, they also cannot get enough of the chance to destroy a piece of wood or MDF. But reflecting on what we are doing I feel we should be doing more with mechanics and robotics and less with the craft side. The kids here are enjoying it but I am not teaching a skill here, these kids will never become craftsmen, joiners, or workmen, and if they had to fix something at home Daddy would make a call, a man would come round and the job would be fixed.
I have decided not to have the grade 8's make the tangram exercise I had originally planned almost because of the idea that I am not teaching skills but thinking processes. They have had a chance to destroy some wood using the various tools so now I am going to go straight into the school model project - I had originally allocated 14 weeks to this but I have to be realistic its going to take closer to 16 and maybe more as the speed the kids work at is quite slow.(Unless they can take it home!! Problem is then you can never be 100% sure it is all their own work - The drive to be successful here is stronger than anything else I have come across)
This coming week is almost going to be a write off I will only have classes on Monday and Wednesday as the other days are taken up with the Cultural days then its Mid Term and a weeks holiday. Not sure what I intend to do but don't really feel like taking a warm break as a lot of the new teachers are, but would like to see a little more of the City during daylight that is for now my home.
On a seperate subject I bought a pair of shoes yesterday leather similar in style to the desert boots look, in the Exito sale they cost me £9.95 give or take a penny or two, I wore them today they were so comfortable I went back and bought another pair. Just to pack and bring back home when I come. The fact they are only the equivalent of £10 for what are very comfortable shoes makes me smile when I would be paying 5 times that for the same things in UK.
