But was changing, firstly I have been offered an interview for a teaching post in Amman in Jordan. The offer was for either a personal interview in late Jan early Feb in London or early March in Dubai. Sounds like fun except they didn't mention any travel costs. So I approached the school asking if possible for an initial telephone interview and only if both parties felt it justified a visit would we continue. The school have agreed that a telephone interview is an option and I need to arrange the time and date during the week starting the 6th of January (Which is of course the day I fly back to Bogota.!!!!) My first choice of school was in Dubai but they have gone very quiet and I am no longer sure if they still retain an interest, so an alternative is worth considering, and of course the International Academy Amman seem much more keen to obtain my services, which is very encouraging.
The next item on my list is my incredibly lucky spell, On Tuesday night I was doing some shopping in my local Panamericana store that sells pens, stationary, MP4 players, TV, Laptops in effect almost everything and on checking out with my purchase I found I had WON a secret christmas prize, bearing in mind I was pretty much oblivious to all the commotion going on around me it came as a nice surprise when one of the management staff thrust a bag full of balls towards me to choose a prize. Reaching in I drew out a ball and the manager hurried off to get my reward. I waited in expectation my mind visualising my prize, I need a new laptop, a new camera would be good, even a nice 30" plasma screen would go well... Soon the manageress returned and handed me my prize, needless to say anti-climax came to mind when I took possession of a box of 8 coloured pencils. Oh well maybe I can use them to write with.
But that wasn't the end of my luck this week... Tonight was the school Christmas dinner it started at 1.00 and ran through to 8.00 Now apart from anything else thats a hell of a good way of having fun. everyone enjoyed the meal and the drinks as well as the raffle. The Raffle is free every member of staff that works anywhere in the school has a chance to win one of the 50 odd prizes ... In the first batch of drawings the clue was its a international teacher wearing glasses and a tie... most people around me thought it was me... but no. Then in the next set of drawings Diana won, Nelson Won and then they called out Stephen Richard...... Dosch - He is a really nice American guy who teaches Economics and he and I laughed a lot finding out we had the same first 2 names spelt the same way.....again everyone around me seemed to think it was me. It got down to the last 5 prizes the in effect star prizes and I was called out as one of 5 people. Each of us would choose a random prize all being really good. I made my choice. The prizes were A TV, A New Computer, A Cinema Surround System, A New Camera and a 3 day break for 2 in one of the most beautiful areas of the North of Colombia based on the Caribbean coast.
Now quite what I am going to do with my 3 day 2 night break for 2 in this beautiful area I do not know yet. I guess I will think about it over the next few weeks, though from the reception I got when I won, I have a feeling I have suddenly become a very popular person to know.
Life as they say is good now where did I put that sun block. Some images from the event
