Grade 6 Writing

Today I had the first 3 grade 6 classes writing, in relative silence. It was 3 of the quietest most peaceful hours I have had here but I was sooooo bored. The kids on the other hand just accepted it and worked away - which is really annoying when you want it to be a pain because its effectively a punishment and they just do it without a word. However they might not be quite so happy when it happens in the next lesson as well.

The rest of the day was fairly quiet too and nothing particularly interesting happened apart of course from one boy who had come in to work in the after school technology club he had spent 2 weeks working on carving out a shape in MDF which on inspection looked like he was manufacturing a double ring. When he cast it it failed to form properly but on closer inspection it was more designed like a knuckle duster than a double ring. Needless to say I told him to melt it back down. Only trouble is I can't actually remember seeing if he did or not - mental note to ask Diana since I think she teaches him. If he is Grade 7 he shouldn't be in the after school club unless its to complete class work, as the premise of the club is that its there for the grade 9, 10 and 11s, though we are both having to make exceptions for kids who are going to be away next week on sports or visits and need to finish class work.

Its strange how in one grade 9 class I have not only the most creative of students but also a group who seem to think looking at music videos is the way to pass the course. Straight after Christmas I will be returning the Grades for the research which is due in tomorrow if they are to have a chance of a grade 7, Monday for a grade 6, Tuesday for a grade 5, Wednesday for a grade 4 and after that it will be classed as not submitted for a maximum grade of 3 if handed in after. I can already see this group are going to have very low marks, since I seriously doubt they have done anything yet, and its not that they can't they just choose not to. I will of course have to notify to the head of year to cover my own back. I could do it now but feel that having a little more proof to back up my comments could be useful.

Thankfully tomorrow is Friday and that means only SEVEN days till I take a 23 hour flight back to Scotland - Might be a wee bit tired when I get back I am flying with Iberia and from what I have read they arn't the most roomy and well thought of carrier but I guess as long as they get me home I shouldn't complain.
