Sunday and I havent commented much the last few weekends about visiting the Plaza Espana - Mainly because I don't like constantly repeating what a saint I am because I am blatantly not. However todays visit justifies some comment. When we arrived there was a definite sense of something not normal. Partly through the demeanour of those we had come to help feed but also through the very obvious Police presence, which is usually something you see in the background. The 18 men we took apart to feed and give Hot chocolate too were restless and where usually they were willing to wait today they were impatient and although not openly hostile to the Servidors (The church group ) and to the helpers like myself the same was not true of their reactions to each other. The reason we heard later was that one of the homeless had been murdered last night and this event had affected all those who we saw.
I wont be there next sunday but my thoughts will be with those volunteering their time as the intention is to provide a Xmas style dinner though not on the scale of UK but to feed 700 homeless men and women and 200 homeless children the mere thought of the task is earth shaking when you consider the Servidors number no more than about 20 with usually a voluntary support of another 20.
From their it was back to the real world or at least the one I know and a coffee and croissant at The Juan Valdez Cafe before a walk to the Hacienda shopping centre to get the final items of shopping prior to heading home. Coming out it decided to Rain so a quick adventure on the small buses was the order of the day as getting a Taxi in the Rain is a nigh on impossible task.
My final stage was to unpack and repack my case ready for the trip. I think I have everything catered for. Though still need to get some money transferred to Euro's or Dollars since Sterling is unheard of here. I expect to lose a little on the transfers but thats just the way it is as I need to take the money back.
Tomorrow is washing day after school take my washing in its the biggest load yet but does mean i will come back to a full wardrobe of clean clothes.
Teaching wise I hope to be able to add some of the kids Acrylic clock pictures through the week so far about 3 have finished but I hope by wednesday everyone has.
So there you go 3 working days 1 day of events and 1 day of travelling before I get to breath the fresh clean cold, wet air of the West Coast of Scotland. So looking forward to it (And the FISH SUPPER for tea)
