Today there was a problem. The Grade 9 pupils felt so strongly about the problem that after lunch instead of going to class they held a sit down protest on the football field. Even with the intervention of senior management the pupils refused to move effectivly sitting out the whole last period... I wonder how the school will deal with a complete year group taking action. It certainly kept my Grade 8 class amused though I didnt get a lot of work out of them.
Grade 9 Sit down protest.
My class working... OK open a little to how you define working.... The boys were putting in the effort the girls were supporting the Grade 9 democracy in action OR they just liked the opportunity to check out the male population. I have a feeling it might be the latter.
This is Lina one of the brightest and most intelligent young ladies in the year group, quite why she thought sitting on the floor was going to solve the problem she had I don't quite know but as always never one to miss the chance to pose...
I enjoy working with the Grade 8 classes they are all mature for their age, enjoy what they are doing and its nice to be able to relax and have a laugh with the kids and provide hints and tips to what they are doing without having to resort to powerpoint led lessons, which is so different from my Grade 6 classes.
Final point for tonight is I had a personal visit from the Administrative Director who brought me "something close" to my contract in writing. In truth looking at what he has provided its a joke when you consider how legalistic this society is, but it does say he agrees and acknowledges the contract offered so basically I now have a little more security through the fact that now 2 people have to leave before plausable deniability could be applied. That and of course looking at the pay system it is heavily weighted to the 3rd and 4th terms obviously a way to ensure you do return after Xmas.
So over all today was an excellent day Good classes, open rebellion and of course some finalising of the contract paper work.
Now tomorrow we find out whether the board are going to eat humble pie and take back the irreversable decision they made 2 weeks ago or whether they are going to be very silly and keep it in place. Bearing in mind 1 teacher has already arranged alternative employment for next year and that the school have not advertised yet, things could get difficult the longer the year goes on.
