Late Thursday Night

Its getting late and I wanted to add some of the photo's taken earlier of some of the buildings produced by the kids.

Some show a lot of creativity some show less. It has become very obvious which groups worked and which didn't in one class I have a group who excelled with a good presentation of work and a group who excelled equally well by failing to produce anything that could be marked. So I can see that at the end of the day I am going to have to sit down and restress the need for team work. This shouldn't be a new concept as the MYP stresses it in every subject area. But I will be honest it wasn't a big surprise, with this group it was expected. It will be interesting to see next week how the group concerned take to the fact that every one of them has failed. I kind of hope it generates some internal arguments and maybe highlights that to get a pass they have to work together not sit and watch You Tube and hunt for music videos.

This was the really stunning build. My only complaint is that the group or in this case the student that built it didn't follow the defined sizes but again the creativity and thinking behind it makes it impossible for me to mark it down.

Finally the kids who wanted to build the sex shop handed in their work, sadly their building wasn't quite up to the excitement they generated in trying to produce it.

This has shown that the kids will try to take shortcuts where they can and even with an exemplar available on view they failed to try to achieve a decent level of presentation. For the school project to be successful the kids need to realise that quality is a better trait than quantity. After all sh*t is sh*t no matter how well you dress it up. Sorry must be feeling philisophical tonight.

Tomorrow I am off to Robotica 2007 with 4 other staff and 75 kids. I have really missed Diana's help with this and today was a nightmare of trying to get the final groups of kids sorted out, organise transport, and sort out snacks. The outcome is basically its done and I am hoping it all falls into place tomorrow .. so why am I panicing.
