Friday

Today was a good day now I am not sure if its because I have been starting every class with the "I am very disappointed routine re the Graffiti" or whether some thing else is happening, either way the work the kids of Grade 6 are doing on this project is exceptional compared to the last project, my hope is they will keep this level of work up during the coming weeks.

Grade 8 kids are starting their lets make a shop - architectural scale modelling some of the work being produced is pretty basic but others are really getting into it, I have avoided setting homework but its always refreshing when the kids want to continue the work at home.

I have started to regiment the lesson beginnings spending the first 5 minutes getting all the admin out of the way. This gives the chance for the kids to settle and for me to gather my thoughts so definitly worthwhile.

We had a visit today from some prospective parents there were various groups being shown round the school, I showed them into the Technology rooms and explained some of the projects which they seemed quite pleased with, though I have a feeling that one of the parents I spoke to was an architect as he smiled when I mentioned the grade 8 project and commented that it was quite a project to take on. I have a feeling that only someone with the knowledge of the size of the project would appreciate the work involved.

So all in today is a definitly better day than yesterday.

Add to that I am off for the weekend to a village thats about 3 hours out of Bogota with the other new teachers from this year, it will be a nice break a chance to relax and a bit of a change. Hopefully the weather will stay dry enough to make it a decent photo opportunity - Updates will be Sunday Night.

Finally on a different note I witnessed (Heard) my second accident at my junction tonight. A cyclist with no lights, in the dark was hit my a car at the cross roads. Fortunately it wasn't serious and the cyclist got up and wandered to the side of the road holding his arm, his bike was a bit worse for wear. In the car that hit him was a teenage girl and her mother driving. The girl was unconsolable and was doing an excellent impression of the wailing and gnashing of teeth approach. Seriously she was like a one woman screaming machine - now I know she probably got a fright but she wouldn't know this cyclist from adam, so to be so distraught over the accident kind of drew the attention away from the poor injured guy and onto her, as all the passers bye tried to console her. Fortunately the police arrived fairly quickly and ushered her back into her mothers car where she was far less central to the proceedings. But as usual even with the bike lying in the middle of the road and the car stopped half on half off the road, nothing stopped the Bogota traffic from sounding their horns, playing chicken and doing some of the most bizarre road maneouvers possible to continue their journies. The one strange thing I have noticed is that Road Rage just doesn't exist. In UK there would be serious problems but here perhaps because everyone drives like a lunatic just released from the asylum no one seems to care, even when it results in a bump.

Hasta manyana (plus 1)
