I go for 2 reasons, one is I feel I am helping a little but also it allows me to see the side of Bogota that perhaps the City itself tries to keep hidden, or at least not admit to...
The first thing that I noticed when we arrived is that where in previous weeks we had seen 300 plus this week there looked to be under 200. Martha seemed to take this in her stride but I asked why there were fewer this week than previous weeks. Martha explained that in the lead up to elections (It happens in 8 days) many of the homeless are "picked up" and ferried off to an area away from the main population for the duration of the elections. I found this quite a chilling concept, who decides who walks the streets and who doesn't.
I took a few photo's on the way there today they were taken from the car and we were traveling quite fast so please excuse the sloping verticals another reason why a good camera is needed.
Police at the entrance to the Trans Millenio Down Town.
Graffiti is a problem in all cities.
Motor Cycles are the faster way around ..On a Sunday its easy, during the week its suicide. Note the Registration number on the back of the reflective waistcoat and helmet, a requirement by law.
Some homeless don't make it to the Parque area, and the wall and lamp post ARE at those angles that is NOT the camera.
This is Parque Espana a large Plaza in what looks like a nice area (Looks are deceiving) As the video turns through 360 degrees you can see groups of about 17 or so homeless listening to todays Parable. Martha is seen standing at the group I had been helping with.
Finally this picture has made me smile every week .. Yes that is a TANK parked on top of a Building - It highlights a store that sells Military Armour !!! Only in Colombia !!
