Hello, Good Evening and Welcome

From a wet Bogota.

This morning started with an Earthquake drill,(For my mums peace of mind the last Earthquake was many years ago) At 1 minute to 8 I had to tell the grade 6 class I had that they were now experiencing an earthquake and they should get under the Work tables. They were very good and did so though it was quite amusing as 26 kids climbed under the desks and left the classroom looking empty.

It all went well apart from the impression of dis-organised chaos outside as we then evacuated to the football field, though I am sure it was just an impression.

After such a traumatic start to the day, I should mention we are supposed to drop everything as we evacuate, BUT I had just filled my coffee cup and since it has a spill proof lid I justified taking it with me to test its earthquake proofness, it was found to be 100% Earthquake drill proof and I didn't spill a drop.

I then had a free period and had another play with some pewter, during the holiday week I created a mold for a 2 headed serpent, this is taken from pre-colombian influences but adapted and modified to suit my design ideas.
The outcome was successful I think (I like it) and I have left it in the department so we can use it as an example in the mold. I could have left my Psycho Broccoli on a chicken foot (Read back a few entries for those lost by this comment)but I actually like it and its sitting on top of my TV in the Flat.
The 2 headed serpent is completely unfinished, very rough, but the idea is to show how it looks in the mold before and after removing, and prior to cleaning and polishing. (A quick request to my friend Kent in UK - any ideas for polishing pewter to make it shiny - or does it depend on the type of pewter?)

I also started my Year 6 Kids on their second project manufacturing a Tangram Puzzle out of MDF and Plywood, with a Chinese theme. This was my Whiteboards this morning, Information overload or what !! Poor kids English as a second language and this is what greets them when they come into class. Think I might need to ease up a bit? Though I thought my Pagoda was pretty cool... wonder if I could make it in pewter!!! (Relax Diana I am only joking - Was considering a full scale copy of the pre-colombian mask from the Gold Museum instead.)
