Yesterday was listed in the calendar as being Casa Day from 730-1030 in the morning. Basically pupils meet in their house groups with allocated teachers, I have been allocated to Air House - which has a grey T Shirt as its colour .. when you consider Earth has a strong Black, Fire has a powerful Red and Water has an enigmatic Blue, Airs Grey seems a little flat. House competitions are designed to help promote a healthy rivalry. My experience of the same idea from UK is that from what I had seen it didn't work too well. This is down to a lot of different factors but I still feel UK is pulling itself apart in standard education rather than trying to pull together. Here the school are definitly trying to create a "feeling" of school spirit though this could only be the icing on the cake and the inner turmoil of the school may still be there, I can honestly say this is more rumour, than facts that I have seen. My only real complaint here is things just don't happen when you expect them too and you can never find the right person to speak to on the first attempt. I am still waiting for someone to come sort out my "lack of hot water" I do get luke warm water but not anywhere near hot enough. But as I left work on Friday we were having 6 brand new computers delivered and installed with the ONLY colour laser anywhere in the school. (I cant get a strip heater or a vacumm former but a colour laser - no problem at all) Anyway back to Casa Day the kids as usual were so well baheved, enjoying the experience and the Kite flying display that followed. Bearing in mind we had children from preschool up to equivalent 6th form there was no carry on at all, It was interesting to see the kites which started with 3 large kites representing the Colombian flag colours and then followed by a variety of other kites including a large one that looked like an aeroplane,
very cleverly done.
But the one that had to take top spot was the female legs complete with red high heeled shoes and a red thong.. YES a THONG !!!
The kids seemed to like it though. (Think I might have preferred the top half.) After the event was over pupils returned to the normal school days and I had one class to teach a grade 6 class who were about to do isometrics from their previous orthographic drawings and I'll be honest I pushed too hard the kids with such limited background knowledge could not get the idea of working at 30 degreees so this weekend is replanning how to teach isometric in a very simple way (Basic Packaging might be the idea, linking to some sort of sweet packet thats basically rectangular which will allow the kids to draw its three views, render them, then create a basic net before then creating the isometric ... funny really just thought of that and now I think thats what I will do. Wish I had thought of doing it earlier now - good excuse to go shopping later to see if I can find a suitable sweet packet) This image is of the telegraph pole a few feet from my apartment ! If you are, or have any electrical experience I apologise for giving you the heebie jeebies looking at this work of art.
Finally now I am thinking sweets, Cadburys have always used strong imagery to get their message across through advertising. As a graphic teacher I like to think I can see the hidden message inside the advertising - but this is a first - dark , moody, strong, something you savour long before seeing, tasting,... See what you think.
